Biography

Dr. Felix Wittern is Partner in the Hamburg office of Fieldfisher. Felix advises national and international technology firms, specifically companies utilising or implementing IT products on IT law. He regularly works on technology projects including the development, licensing and distribution of software. He also advises on telecommunications law including regulation issues as well as on business outsourcing proceedings.

Felix acts as a data protection officer (DPO) in numerous companies and for many years has been a very active figure in data protection law. He provides support with the implementation of concepts for international data transfers and develops critical application areas and databases together with his clients’ internal DPOs.

Felix focuses on the media and information technology sectors. He also advises online travel agencies as well as start up companies and Internet companies on data protection issues. He also assists with technical questions on project management as well as on expedient website configurations.

Previously Felix worked in the IT group at an international law firm. He also has seven years’ sector experience from his position at AOL as Deputy General Counsel where he looked after the legal developments for technical and content-related issues as well as numerous central technical agreements and call centre contracts.

Felix studied in Hamburg and San Francisco with focus on information law and communications. He wrote a doctoral thesis on privacy law.

Felix is a mediator (DAA) and is qualified for the additional specialisation „Fachanwalt für IT-Recht” (Specialist Attorney for IT Law).

Felix has published in the leading commentary on telecommunications law with respect to data protection and data security provisions and is the co-author of the book entitled “Data protection laws of the world” for Germany. He has published several articles regarding cloud computing and outsourcing and regularly speaks on data protection issues at German and international seminars.
